Cat Needs A Home
Hi everyone. I've never posted here before, but I wanted to pass this along in case anyone knows someone who wants a cat:

A former co-worker of mine recently told me she's giving up her cat. I didn't ask why, but I did say that I'd ask around to see if anyone wants a cat. The cat's name is Pebbles. She's a tuxedo cat, about three years old, fixed, up to date on her shots, and she still has her claws. From what I've heard about her personality Pebbles is shy and skittish at first but warms up given time. The cat is located in Lawrenceville, GA about 30 minutes from Atlanta. If anyone in the area wants a cat or knows someone who wants a cat please let me know! Thanks!

Humane Society Fundraiser
Hey all. I am posting to raise awareness about a Humane Society in great need. On January 13th, the Ritchie County Humane Society in West Virginia had a massive fire that burned down their cattery/supply building. 50 cats and 13 dogs were lost, and 99% of their supplies were burned up. Food, medicines, blankets, everything went up in smoke. The county and state government is contributing what they can, but it's a very rural county in a not so well off state.

The following buttons are links to a paypal-like donation system. They have a couple sponsors who are willing to match certain raised funds, as well as a rebuilding fund. If you'd like to see a list of specific things the shelter still needs, you can find it at their petfinder website at http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/WV22.html

They still have alot of cats and dogs in foster care, the new kennel which did not burn down, as well as the animals who are still being dropped off every day, so if you have the ability and willingness to spare anything to help, it'd be very much appreciated.

Please help Hope for Paws animal Rescue by voting in Chase Competition now

HOPE FOR PAWS is the ONLY pet rescue  in the Chase competition on Facebook.  We save all animals from both the streets and shelters, foster them, get them medical care, and find them loving homes.

Below is one video of CHASE, a Maltese/Chihuahua we just rescued this week who the shelter was going to euthanize for being vicious

Here is a video of Eldad Hagar (founder) rescuing Ace, the injured Pit Bull off the streets in Downtown LA.

Ruby needs a home ASAP.
So, a neighbor of ours has recently had two of his roommates move out on him, one of them leaving behind her dog, Ruby. He's in the process of moving out himself (he's not the one on the lease), and moving to an apartment where he can't bring Ruby. Rather than leave her abandoned in a house without food or power, and not wanting to take her to animal control where she's likely to be put down, he's asked us and some of our other neighbors for some help finding a home for Ruby.

Ruby is a sweet, 2-year old mutt that is intelligent and housetrained. She's protective of her people, but not aggressive. She's been somewhat trained (she can sit and shake) and is healthy, though she'll need a flea treatment ASAP.

She may have issues with cats (hence why neophobic and I can't take her in), but she just needs someone to take her for a few days at least while we try to find her longer-term arrangements.

Know anyone who can help?

UPDATE: Ruby's found a place either with the Atlanta Humane Society or Barking Hound Village. Now she just needs a permanent home. She's really a sweet dog.

Please, please, please pass this on.

Please help out an area animal shelter, time is running out!
My wife and I volunteer for the Etowah Valley Humane Society up in Cartersville. Though we only lived in Kennesaw when we first started volunteering there, we still go all the way up there from East Atlanta, mainly for two reasons: 1) They really need the help, and 2) we've met some really good people there.

Recently, back in mid-August, the shelter had their payroll account hacked and $10,000 was stolen from their account. It would have been $15,000, but there were insufficient funds in their account for the $5,000 withdrawl. For more information on this, check out the story from the local newspaper here. They've been told by their bank that there's nothing that can be done to get their $10,000 back, so, for an organization that relies solely on donations for operating funds, $10,000 is quite a hit. Furthermore, with all the evictions and foreclosures, the shelter is already stressed, trying to deal with more animals than it normally would care for.

However, there is some hope...

As you may be aware, Rachel Ray (of Food Network fame) has a brand of dog food, Nutrish. She's currently sponsoring a contest online called "Recipe for Puppy Love," where people enter pictures of their dogs and a description, and the winner receives $5,000, as does the animal charity of their choice. Coincidentally enough, a dog adopted from EVHS is a finalist in the contest, and is currently in second place, only a few hundred votes behind the leader. The dog's owner has contacted the shelter (before the money was stolen) and said that she would name EVHS as the beneficiary of the donation if her dog won.

While we can't get back the $10,000 that was stolen, getting $5,000 from this contest would be an amazing help for the shelter. There are only a few days left in the contest, and all you need to do is click on the link below, and vote ONCE PER DAY for Candy, the EVHS dog. Please, only vote once per day, as additional votes actually count against our total.

To vote for Candy, the EVHS dog, please visit the following link: Vote for Candy!

Finally, if you could please help by spreading word of this, it would be greatly appreciated! The animals of EVHS could really use your help.

Unattended dogs in vehicles.
I can't find anything specific to state if they were breaking a law, but this really upset me.

I was eating breakfast and a family had left their dog in the car. This was at a Cracker Barrel and they aren't known for their speedy service. We were in there for at least an hour and when we were leaving the family --a grandma and her older children, it appeared-- were all piling into the vehicle.

I wanted to say something, but they had driven off before I got to them. Is it actually against the law in Georgia to leave your dog unattended in the heat? If so, what is the punishment or fine if caught. And who should be contacted?

When i got into my car all i could think of was," i don't want to be sitting in this misery for two minutes without ac, and that family had their pooch in the heat for over an hour!"
I was very upset.

Any information would be helpful! I want to make sure if the law is against it, that these people know!

Found at a QT

This is the cat eli_artemisia found in the parking lot where she was working. I CANNOT KEEP THIS CAT AND SO HIS IS THE NAMELESS BLACK CAT WHO WILL NOT BE KEPT.

We took him for a first time vet visit. They say he's approximately 5 weeks old, he is negative for feline AIDS and Leukemia. He is a great kitten, but I simply cannot keep him, I know my cat limit.
(I have 3).

If you or anyone you know can help this little guy out with a home, please leave a comment here.

Thank you.

Help a kitty in need...
Tonight, I found the most beautiful long haired grey cat mewling outside of my gym. I am pretty sure that he/she is feral since its coat was pretty ratty. I am going back to give it a bowl of cat food, but I don’t think that is a good long term solution.

I already have three cats in a small loft and absolutely cannot take this kitty in for fear of exposing my healthy cats to fleas, worms, etc. I don't even have a separate closed off room in which I could house this cat until I was able to relocate it. I don’t have the heart to just walk away and forget about it, though.

What does one do in a situation like this? Is there an Atlanta area non-kill shelter that would take this cat in or is anyone looking for a new cat (dependent on whether or not I can catch it)?

Sunday Adoptions Report! Cats in the Cradle
Sunday was a little slow, but we adopted out 3 kitties. Two who had been with us for a long time and one who is "extra-special".

Tucker, an pretty and sweet orange boy from a foster:

Joe Joe Lewis, a great orange tabby boy from the shelter who'd been adopted out by us as a young guy and his first owner passed away so we took him back: http://catsinthecradle.rescuegroups.org/animals/detail?AnimalID=615913

ScruffieJoy/Hop-a-Long, a three legged tabby/white girl:

Any of you who work with animals know there's always one (or more!) that tugs on your heart strings. Right now Justin is that kitty for me. He was given to us when his owners lost their home in this sucky economy. Justin is 14 and was raised by that family since he was 6 weeks old! I could never imagine how hard it would be to have to give up my babies, and after 14 years?!?! So, I try to spread the word about these special kitties that touch my heart. Justin is a beautiful Maine Coon looking kitty, but he's much smaller than the even the mixed ones I usually see.

Found Australian Shepherd Mix
Received this from one of the board members at our shelter and wanted to pass this along.

Folks, yet another found pup in the Brookhaven area. He appears to be
an australian shepherd mix....very very cute. This dog was at first
shy, until he was given treats by the people that found him, and then
he warmed right up.
He seems to be house trained, knows some obedience, and, is good with
their dog.
They are forced to keep him in their garage right now, as he's escaped
their back yard. Unfortunately, they are not in a position to keep
him, and want to avoid taking him to a shelter.

Not sure of the dogs age, or if he's neutered. He seems like a young
dog. They haven't been able to get him to a vet yet to be scanned for
a chip, but do intend to, as well as put up signs. He did have a
collar on, but, no identification.

He was found in the Brookhaven Heights neighborhood, which is in
Brookhaven right by the MARTA station. We live on Standard Drive.

If this dog is not claimed, he will need a new place to call home. We
are hopeful someone is missing him, and, he was not abandoned.

See the attached photo, and if you know of someone missing this dog,
please contact Rianna Day at email rianna_day@yahoo.com or

Thanks, as always,
